New Moths Found on 28 June 2009

Wow, it's Hawk Moth time!  The trap included two huge Privet Hawk Moths and an Elephant Hawk Moth.  Most impressive.  And we also caught a brand new species.  Rob had seen this last week near the trap and on approaching what he thought was probably a shrivelled leaf it flew away.  Being more cautious this week he managed to photograph the spectacular Lilac Beauty

Others worth photographing included:

Others in the trap were many Heart & Darts, many Uncertain or Vine's Rustics, many Common Footman and Double Square-spots, new for this season the Dot Moth, several Riband Waves, some Dark Arches, a few Bee Moths, a Celypha lacunana or two, some Grey or Dark Daggers, a few Stenoptilia/Platyptilia, a Sycamore and a Common Emerald.
